Although the introduction to plastic was in 1867, when a $10,000 prize was offered by a New Yorker to anyone who could make source of Ivory useful. The money was never given, but a printer and his brother made history. They created celluloid, one of the first plastics in the world. Though, in this time, it was made by all natural produce.

1907 is marked as the beginning to the Polymer Age, or considered the Age of Plastics. In 1902, a chemist by the name of Adolf Luft, tried to mimic celluloid for commercial use. Many chemists like Baekland kept a journal of their success in creating different types of plastic. Baekland was successful and created a synthetic plastic known as Bakelite. Baekland is called the Father of Plastics.
